I’ve always had a thing for candles. Even as a child, I remember traveling to the United States and coming back to London with suitcases full of Yankee Candles for family and friends. Scents were part of who I was; small everyday things that could make a space feel like home, a memory, or even a little slice of calm.
Fast forward a few decades: I spent years as a nurse, then moved into Clinical research, always curious about how people heal, both physically and emotionally. Life from Nurse to Clinical Researcher to Founder has always been busy, full, and often exhausting. And now, hitting 40, I started noticing things differently. Not just as me, but as a mum to two high-energy boys. I wanted the spaces around me to support wellbeing not just for myself, but for my family.
That’s when Kitan Aromatherapy started to take shape. I dove into the world of natural ingredients and essential oils, reading and researching everything I could about how scents affect mood, energy, and mental clarity. I wanted to create products that weren’t just beautiful, they had to be functional, nurturing, and safe for families.
Kitan Aromatherapy is the result of that journey from Nurse to Clinical Researcher to Founder. Every candle, every oil, every scent we craft carries a piece of my story: my childhood love of fragrances, my years in healthcare and research, and my desire to create moments of calm in a busy life. It’s about small pauses, little rituals that let you breathe, reset, and reconnect with yourself.
I started Kitan because I wanted to bring a little more mindfulness into the chaos of my life. And if a candle, a diffuser, or a carefully crafted essential oil blend can help a mum, a dad, or anyone running at full speed to feel a moment of calm, then everything that went into building Kitan feels worth it.
Here’s to scents that comfort, spaces that nurture, and little rituals that remind us to pause even if it’s just for a minute.
